Powder Painting

Materials: Powdered Tempera Paints, Cotton balls, paper, and water(water is optional. You can use a squirt bottle or even a paint brush dipped in water.)

Paint by dipping cotton balls in the powdered paints and rubbing on paper.

Deen seemed to prefer using his fingers instead of the cotton balls… See how this works his pincer grasp… and develops his fine motor skills…

Here is the finished powdered paint picture…

We decided to then squirt it with some water to add to the paint colors. This was very messy Deen LOVED this…

I do think that squirting his painting with water and seeing how they mixed was his favorite part.

I have this idea in a child's art book that I have. I've wanted to try it for a while now, and I really want to after seeing your pictures! Where did you find powdered tempera? I can't find it anywhere.

Very cool idea! The spray bottle would be my favorite part, too!

It looks very fun. I am contemplating trying this with crayon shavings, since I didn't see powdered tempera anywhere either. I also liked the end result – really pretty!
