Baking

There is something so enticing about baking for kids. They seem to find so much enjoyment out of the process that it really doesn’t even matter what the final result is. In our case though, these muffins were divine!

The most important step though is preparation. I like to use box mixes when I am baking with my kids because of the simplicity. Things don’t need to be mixed a certain way or for a certain period of time.

I present the baking activity by placing all the necessary ingredients on the table.

Since there are two kids they will have to learn to share so that they both get to do the activity together. (They battle with this.)

Deen throws half of the mix into the bowl and then gives Aaliya a turn to throw the rest in.

The last time I baked with the kids was months ago and I don’t think Aaliya even remembers it.

Aaliya throws in the water.

Deen adds the eggs into the bowl.

Someone put in the oil but I can’t remember who.

Aww see how nicely they are mixing the ingredients together?

Yip, they even shared the leftovers!

And this smile is proof that this was an activity well done. :)

Baking Barney Cupcakes

by Nadia on June 30, 2010

in Baking

Deen loves to help me bake, especially if it has anything to do with one of his favorite cartoon like figures. In this case it was Barney.
I prefer to use box mixes when baking with Deen because it is just that much easier for me. I can then focus on my camera better him without having to worry about the 999 other ingredients in the recipe…(or worse yet… forgetting one of them!)
I first get everything ready for Deen so that all he needs to do is dump the ingredients in. If he was older and could measure then I would have all our supplies out and would ask him to measure as he added the ingredients.
See how easy and calm this is.… All he needs to do is throw the ingredients in…
Mix mix mix…
Separate each cupcake wrapper and put them in the cupcake tin…
Wow, who knew that there were so many learning opportunities in such a simple activity?
Separate the mixture…
Bake…
Cover in frosting…
Sprinkle on some sprinkles…
They definitely look better than they tasted.…
I don’t like the box icing at all…

Deen didn’t seem to mind though! (and that’s all that really matters anyway!)
