Before you leave home: Plan out an outfit that will coordinate or pop against the pastel colors all around you! I knew that I wanted my girls to wear their fairy themed Cotton On Tutu skirt and tops that I purchased a few weeks ago.
There are A LOT of photo opportunities so you definitely want to come armed with your DSLR camera or your cell phone with a good amount of storage space available.
What to expect inside the Museum of Ice Cream in Los Angeles
Something important to note is that there is very pinkish lighting in the museum. This can make it very difficult to take pictures and you will definitely end up with pink tinged skin tones.
Parking: There is valet parking available for $6. This was very convenient! It’s Downtown LA and this particular area doesn’t have much going on so you aren’t going to want to walk around much. Plus the Valet is perfectly priced. There is also $3 garage parking as well as non-metered parking on the street. Make sure to read the signs!! I never want to take a chance though so if valet is affordable I go with that. (We all know how LA Parking tickets go!)
There are beautiful pink walls around the whole building. Use that to your advantage! We took family pictures, whimsy pictures and fun pics!
Arrive early! Come at least 20 minutes early. There is a waiting area that has many play opportunities for the kids. PLUS, the waiting area has the most beautiful flower backdrop. We got some beautiful family pictures on the bench here as well as standing poses.
We got to this area about 15 minutes before our scheduled time slot. The kids enjoyed this area so much that they didn’t want to leave. When we were done with the Museum we came right back here to hang out for another 15 minutes.
A few minutes before your scheduled time slot someone will come over and let everyone know that you can begin to line up for your appointment time.
Room #1:
This room is the last room with natural lighting (which meant it was the perfect photo opportunity to start your tour. )
There are chocolates available here: The blue wrapper has milk chocolate in it while the red wrapper has dark chocolate.
Room #2:
This room is filled with pink ‘pay’ phones. My children ‘spoke’ to the ice cream man here and described which flavors they would like to try.
Room #3:
This room has an adorable wall painting.
You will also get your first flavor of ice cream here. The flavor we got was Cookie Dough.
Room #4:
There will most definitely be a line for this one and I highly suggest you wait in it.
Come on, you gotta admit that the colorful room is pretty cool!
Tip!! Scratch and sniff the banana’s!!
Room #5 +6: Banana Room + Mint room.
I don’t have pictures to post of these rooms. The banana room had very unique lighting with some fun music. My kids enjoyed dancing around in there.
The mint room was pretty full of people. My husband LOVED the mint ice cream served in this room.
Room #7: Little Game Area
There is a small game room (includes only this game) with mirrors all around. Be careful where you are walking here.. I almost walked into a mirror haha.
Everyone gets one free turn for the game above.
Room #8: The Popsicle Ice Cream Room
Pretty room but it was challenging to keep my 3 year old off the popsicles here. (They have a guard watching to make sure no one jumps on to anything.)
Room #9: Gummy bears galore!
The next area you walk into has a lot of gummy bears. These contain gelatin. (Just thought i’d let you know in case you are under gelatin free dietary restrictions.) There are a lot of gummy bear picture taking opportunities. The colors are so pretty!
You get a handful of these!
Room #10: Cookie Ice Cream
How adorable are these tiny cones?!
Yep, let the kids taste it but… be prepared for black teeth during your sprinkle pool time!
Room 11: The sprinkle pool
Ok everyone, I know that this is the main room here and it is rightfully so! Who wouldn’t love bathing in a pool or sprinkles. It’s a childhood dream.
You will remove your shoes and any loose items here and place them in the open lockers.
Please remember that these sprinkles are plastic and not edible.
The colors… the feeling.. the excitement.. the opportunities!!
Also note that you will be taking MANY of these pretty sprinkles home with you unintentionally. You will leave a sprinkle trail wherever you go for the rest of the day.
Yep, you can understand from the picture below why I found sprinkles in the oddest of places!
Apparently, I am the most delicious of all ice cream.. especially with sprinkles poured all over me by my children and spouse.
You will ONLY have 2 minutes in the sprinkle pool along with a lot of other people. (Meaning, pictures without parts of other people are a tough squeeze!)
I personally wish they would have allowed each family 2 minutes or even a minute without anyone else in there.
Room 12: Ice cream for breakfast
This sandwich ice cream themed room has an ice cream sandwich swing and table tennis area.
Towards your left you will see a sign that says, “Ice Cream for Breakfast” along with a lot of empty pans. Go stand next to the one closest to the corner wall.. They are actually serving pancakes with ice cream between it. It’s not very noticeable but it’s another opportunity to get to eat. (Because, thats why I go anywhere…)
There is also the cutest little melting ice cream bench.
Before you exit:
There is a little gift shop where you can purchase some memorabilia.
Final thoughts and Museum Of Ice Cream Review
We really enjoyed our time in the Downtown Los Angeles location. It was definitely a unique out of the box experience where we had a lot of fun and a lot of laughs. It is definitely worth taking the kids to!
There was definitely room for improvement in terms of the flow of people but like any other popular ‘museum’, there’s always going to be other people around.
I hope you enjoyed this review!

So cool. As a fellow mom blogger of a bunch of girls this would totally be up their alley.
