The kids are going to love this Valentine sensory bin! It’s packed full of Valentine sensory activities that are certain to work on their sensory skills while adding a ton of fun, too. We LOVE to celebrate Valentine’s Day in our house as you can tell by our Valentine Pajamas For Kids that we wear each year! We really enjoy celebrating this holiday and I love figuring out and making up Valentine’s Gifts For Kids.
I created Valentine’s Day Themed Sensory Bin. My kids LOVE sensory bins and can spend hours and hours (on different days of course) playing with them.
Sensory bins are great for fine motor skills and sensory learning, and not to mention, full of seasonal fun.

How to create a Valentine Sensory Bin
I first colored rice and placed it into the bins. I then looked out for different trinkets around the house that would be suited to Valentine’s Day.
I love that the spoon is unusual and will not behave like a normal spoon. The rice will fall through it.
I added a few pink cups and a cookie-cutter. Then I cut out some foam hearts as well as some felt hearts. These will both feel very different to the kids, which could open up some conversations about how the two hearts feel different. I then added a few smaller foam hearts and hid them in various areas to create the surprise factor!
How to make colored rice for sensory bin activities
Pop on over to Jozi Kids blog and read this blog post I wrote on how to make colored rice! It is Super Easy: DIY Kids: Making Colored Rice
For this project, I colored the rice pink, red, and a very solid red.
What age do you start sensory play?
This can vary depending on the child. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that you need to be there to supervise your child if they are younger. A lot of the sensory bins have smaller pieces and parts to them that are not safe for young children as they can put them in their mouths and cause a choking hazard.
How do you store sensory bins?
I’m all about keeping our sensory bins and reusing them during the various seasons! The simple way is to make the sensory bin in a plastic tote or tub that you can just put a lid on when not in use. Then, just put it on your shelf until you’re ready to use it again.
What do you put in a sensory table for a toddler?
As you can see in this Valentine’s Day sensory bin, I added rice but there are other items that you can use. Some people prefer to use sand, birdseed, water beads, cooked noodles, and the list could go on and on. Use things that are safe for the children and fun to touch!
How you can recreate this Valentine Sensory Bin at home:
Look around your house to see what you have that could be thrown in. Make some colored rice. After you are done then think about what items you can place inside your sensory bin for scooping. Kids love the scooping part.
