If yes, then you’ll definitely want to check this post out! We got to watch the show with the cast, producers, creators and production team!
Diary Of A Future President Review
The Diary Of A Future President is told through the narration of a Cuban American girl, Elena Cañero-Reed (Tess Romero), who becomes the president of America. She gives you a deeper look into her diary, specifically those of the most awkward age of your life… middle school! I love the first person narration, that comes through with her inner personal thoughts and struggles. Elena’s father passed away 3 years ago and her mom, Gabby (Selenis Leyva), enters the dating pool, specifically with a sweet, romantic, goofy and hilarious guy she met at work named Sam (Micheal Weaver).
There are the typical middle school challenges like the sudden loss of best friends, the road to independence and homework due dates and for girls … the question of when menstruation is going to start… I absolutely love the show. I wish there was a show like this when I was in middle school! But like I always tell my kids… you just have to get through the middle school drama and it happens to everyone.
With topics like periods, first time bra’s and the consciousness of the dreaded mustache that girls sometimes get.. and the ensuing attempt to get rid of the unwanted hair makes for hilarious storytelling, relatability and truly a wonderful story time. I intend on watching this show with my daughter for some mom and daughter time. It will remind me of the things she is going through, while showing her that these things are all normal.
I’ve always loved diary themed books and shows. It just seems more personal that way.
We were given the opportunity to watch 2 episodes of the show along with my husband, 10 year old daughter and 6 year old daughter. I can say with all honesty and excitement that my family enjoyed every single minute of this show and that I HIGHLY recommend you check it out. The show is so relatable no matter what your ethnicity is, it’s hilarious and it’s a great show to watch as a family or with your tweens and teens.

- Charlie Bushnell makes his acting debut as Elena’s older brother, Bobby.
- Harmeet Pandy plays Jessica, Elena’s ex best friend who literally just dumped Elena for who knows what reason..

Diary Of A Future President Premiere!
The red carpet event took place right outside Arclight Hollywood.
Have you ever wondered what happens at a red carpet premiere or series premiere?
We got the invitation in my e-mail box to attend the event. While I wasn’t able to cover the red carpet part (ya know me.. and the juggling of three children each with their own careers and extra activities) I was able to get there in time to catch a glimpse of the red carpet event plus still attend the movie and after party.
We checked in and got our seats. I always prefer a movie theater that has assigned seating and ArcLight Hollywood does!
When going to a blogger or media event, they always have popcorn and drinks outside the theater waiting for us. My kids and I love this special touch.
Before the show Disney+ president of content and marketing Ricky Strauss, introduced himself and gave a short talk followed by creator Ilana Peña’s and executive producer Gina Rodriguez. Their speeches were both inspiring and I really wanted my girls to take in what they were both saying about following their dreams and how their hardwork and determination has led them right here… right to the production and release of a dream come true show for them.
Gina Rodriguez’s speech made me tear up a bit. Talk about dreams and I’m all hyped and excited! Then it was time for the show!
My children have never actually watched a series premiere with the cast, production team and crew before. I was really excited to see their reaction to this.
We watched two episodes and at the end of the first episode my 10 year old daughter jumped up and said “NO WAY! This cannot be over!!!”.. Luckily for her, we got to watch a second episode. I watched my husband smirk and giggle a few times while my daughters were both engrossed in Elena’s antics and challenges. It was absolutely wonderful.
The post-premiere after party
After the show, we walked over to the Sunset room a street down to go for the after party.
We walked into this beautiful sight:
Disney really knows how to throw a party with excitement, music, good food with great non-meat options for those of us with a somewhat restricted diet and a fun photobooth too!
The cast of the show loved the photobooth too!
We also got to meet the cast and take pictures with them. They were each so friendly!
I heard (after I left the party) that they were giving away personalized diaries! I somehow missed that with all the excitement going on around us.
The donuts were delicious too!
It was a wonderful night and we can’t wait to start watching this show together.
