At A’s play group we found this great laundry activity and A was fully engrossed.
All your child needs to do is to place both sides of velcro together to hang the “laundry” up.
Sound easy? Not quite.
It takes a lot of skills to make this work. Think about it. The child needs to aim each velcro piece from the “laundry” to the velcro on the board.
It is fairly simple to create this activity:
Take a board, paint it or leave it bare, glue on some velcro (the hook side of velcro).
To make the “laundry”:
- Take some small pieces of fabric or cloth sew the velcro on. (The loop part of the velcro.) You can also hot glue the velcro on if you do not have a sewing machine.
OR
- Sew some pieces of “laundry” like this and stuff them.
Hang it up somewhere.
Have your child hang up the “laundry” and watch the determination in their face and hands.
This would be perfect to hang somewhere near your outside laundry area. While mom hangs up her real laundry her toddler can hang up their own “laundry” and feel like mommy’s helper.
What a fun idea. You could use this format with many different types of objects and themes like hanging and matching mittens and gloves! And with those colorful boards, you could try to match colored socks to the matching colored board!
Deborah your suggestions are great! You have taken this activity and multiplied its learning experiences tenfold. I can tell how much experience you have with kids! Thanks for sharing your suggestions with me and my readers. š
