Materials Needed: Cardstock(or other thick paper), powdered tempera paints, shallow cake pan or biscuit tray, oil, teaspoons for mixing, and some painting cups.
Add some oil to each cup and mix in powdered tempera to desired color. (add salt to powdered tempera for a glittery effect).
Fill cake/biscuit pan with water till its about halfway to the top. Then use a spoon to drop the paint mixture onto the water.
Dropping the oiled paint into the water is amazing to watch… the colors sort of explode… we had a lot of “woah and oooh” remarks here.
If you like you can swirl the colors around lightly.
Place paper on top of the mixture and leave it for about 30 seconds to a minute to float… (i removed it when i could see circular marks through the back of the paper).
We put them on top of newspaper to dry.
Then we tried painting on wax paper.
In this picture… the painting on the upper left(and bottom right) are done on wax paper… the others are done on cardstock. Deens 8 year old cousin loved this project… she had a lot of fun creating!

We've marble-ized paper with shaving cream and paint before, but never this way. I love how it looks in the pan, and I think we'll be trying this! I like the idea of painting on wax paper too – I'm thinking it might make a cool suncatcher, do you think? Great ideas – thanks for sharing!

I really like these projects, just not brave enough to try marbleized paper – looks so messy to me. I admit – I am terribly mess averse 🙂
