Check out my daughter’s 6th Birthday Party. We chose to have a neon party or rather, a glow in the dark party to go with our venue choice of Glowzone Huntington Beach.
Please note that this post is image-heavy as I take you through my thought process of putting the party together and showcasing how we did everything.
Di just turned 6 and for her 6th birthday, we wanted to do something special. I feel like for a child before the age of 5… you throw birthday parties more for the excitement of the parent versus an older child who genuinely has a party and actually remembers it later on in life. While she may not remember her 6th birthday party clearly as she gets older, I hired a videographer to make sure she doesn’t forget it!
You can have a look at our 6th birthday party video – neon party below. It shows you how we put together the whole glow in the dark party as well as more about all the excitement:
More about the party and the process of getting everything together:
We first searched for a venue that could meet my needs.
I wanted a venue that the kids would enjoy while also being fun and enjoyable for the parents attending. I generally like to throw sit down parties where the adults have a good meal and can sit and chill (when they are not too busy watching their kids.) I also wanted a venue that was representative of Di’s fun and funky nature. She is very outgoing and always the life of a party. She loves dancing and she always gives light to those around her. She has a fun positive outlook on life and I can wholeheartedly say that she’s taught me more about life than any other person I know.
We chose to host our party at Glowzone Huntington Beach. We had a look at the venue and saw that we could rent out a good portion of the facility (The Soft City Area and the Bazooka ballroom). This would give my guests a good amount of space to roam around while being in the comfort of our own designated private party area while also giving me space to include some fun extra concession stands too.
This is what our space looked like with the lights on. My only concern was those bright green walls. That was way funkier than what I wanted.
After some back and forth (because I actually wanted a Tinkerbell themed fairy party!) we decided to embrace the venue for the exciting theme that it was and put together an awesome neon party (a neon glow in the dark party!)
I then went to my go-to decorator, Alejandro Montes from @a.mdecorations and we came up with a plan. I love that Alejandro makes it a priority to come to the venue so he can see the space and then works with you on your vision. I showed him some of my ideas and he gave me his ideas too. I mentioned to him one of my biggest concerns with a glow themed party is that, while it’s very pretty at the event… it’s hard to photograph it. With that in mind, he put together something that would look amazing both with the lights on and with the lights off too.
Here is what the glow in the dark party looked like:
To suit the theme Di wore some a glittery top with a neon tutu skirt, Aalz wore a neon green top and I wore this gorgeous and oh so comfortable orange dress.
Look at all these GORGEOUS desserts that Alejandro put together for the dessert table.
Neon Party Activities
There were A LOT of activities to keep everyone busy. We had a photobooth come in. I LOVE Fantastic Snap Photobooth. I always send them my printed design and the quality of their lighting is amazing. They are SO easy going and such a pleasure to have at a party. (If you use them please tell them Fun With Mama sent you.)
I also had concession stands like cotton candy, popcorn and snow cones.
The fruit cart was also a favorite amongst myself and guests too.
There were also a lot of activities for guests including unlimited arcade games for the entire duration of the party, 2 private bowling alley’s and other free play activities like go-carts.
We also had a face painter and multiple glow in the dark items for our guests to dress up with. (Like glow sticks, light up glasses and neon hand covers.)
The gorgeous cake was created by Naghma @sweetestgallery . She is always a pleasure to work with, has amazing communication and loves to work with you to create the cake you are envisioning. (Also let her know that Fun With Mama sent you.)
The gifts stand included neon nail polish, neon gumballs and neon jellybeans.
And the moment of truth… here is what it looked like when we turned off the lights. (talk about a lot of black light party supplies, right?!)
AMAZING, right?!
To my baby girl Di, I love you with all my heart. You always take me out of my comfort zone and make me embrace what it means like to be free. I have learned SO many valuable lessons from your gorgeous soul like:
- To live in the moment. The gorgeous butterfly flying away is worth taking a moment to look at.
- Not to care what other people think and just be me. I feel more myself today, than at any other point in my life.
- To LOVE with all my soul and might… through millions of hugs and kisses.
- That positivity is contagious. The more you are around someone happy, the happier you become. I choose to be that positive person to those around me too!
Here is our family of five.
Here’s my mom, brother and sister in law too.
I hope you enjoyed the neon party birthday party and that it inspires you to create something fun for your child too!
