Valentine Sight Word Activity
Working on sight words has always been something that weโve been passionate about in our house. I feel that theyโre really important because theyโre words that theyโre going to see very often, for the rest of their lives.
But as we all know, itโs important to also find ways to vary up the way that weโre touching and educating our children as well. This is why I like to factor in fun shapes, colors, textures, and holidays to add a whole new element to what we focus on and what the kids are learning about.
You can see how I like to vary things up a bit by checking out theย FRY First hundred Kindergarten Sight Words packet as well. Theyโre both quite different from one another while still being engaging and educational!
Supplies needed for this Valentine Sight Word Activity:
- Paper
- Printer
- Rice
- Tray
- Objects to put into the rice

Whatโs included:ย
This Valentine Sight Word Activity includes 50 sight words plus 8 extra Valentine-themed words. There are literally so many options and combinations to use this sight word packet!
How to use this Valentine Sight Word Activity:
Youโll start by printing out the hearts according to the size you want. The hearts on top are printed at their regular size. The ones on the bottom are printed 2 sheets to one page. I did use the smaller hearts for the tray.

For the matching portion, you would likely want to use the larger hearts. (Theyโre easier to see and grab for little hands.)
After cutting the hearts out I placed some rice onto one of my trays and hid this weekโs sight words in the rice. I also included some heart shapes and some lowercase letters for spelling. (Itโs fun to add in some other elements to keep it interesting and engaging.)

You can add in as many or as few as you want. Mix it up as you go along.

You can even take turns and increase them as you go. Thereโs really no right or wrong way to do this fun activity.

Another fun spin is to have them pull out all the sight words and then create a sentence with it.

While this simple indoor activity will help them learn their sight words, it also helps them work on their fine motor skills as well. Theyโll have to use their hand-eye coordination to grab the sight words and objects from the rice.
Make certain to check out some of our other Valentineโs Day activities as well. Thisย Valentine Color By Number Worksheetsย is a lot of fun, too as is thisย Valentineโs Day Bingo!

This type of Valentineโs activity can be set up easily anywhere in the home but this is how we choose to play and use it in our playroom. It was the only thing on the table so there werenโt any other distractions.

And I think it fits perfectly with all our other Valentineโs Day decorations!

I recently purchased these gorgeous and handy art frames for our playroom. I am SO excited about this purchase. Itโs so easy to interchange their artwork and kids love showing off their creations.
(The kids are really excited as well because they love to have their artwork up for the world to see!)
I hope that however youโre spending your day today itโs full of love!
Happy Valentineโs Day!
