Supplies Needed
These craft supplies are inexpensive and you might already have them!
- Frog Template (Find the free PDF at the bottom of the post)
- Cardstock (This is the more durable option but you can also use construction paper)
- Craft glue or glue stick
- Scissors
- Pencil, black Sharpies or any black marker, colors, crayons, paint or any desired medium
How to Build Your Frog Craft
Build a frog in just 4 steps! Simply print, color, cut out, and glue together.
Step 1: Print
Print out the free paper frog craft. I recommend white cardstock because it is more durable and will be a good option if you choose to laminate it!
Both color and black-and-white options are included in the free template.
You can also opt to use green construction paper if you want to save color ink and keep the activity simple. This is a good option for little kids. Remember that you will just have to change the frog’s cheek colors to a pretty pink or red.
Step 2: Color in the Frog
This step is only necessary if you are using the black-and-white template. I prefer this option because each child’s frog will look unique. Coloring further develops fine motor skills and you can split the activity over two days: one day for coloring and the other for cutting and assembling.
Step 3: Cut the Pieces
Cut out each piece. If your kiddos are little, assist them with this and always be present when scissors are in use. You can also opt to cut the pieces ahead of time and work on assembling the frog together with your little ones by following the guidelines on the template.
There are 9 individual pieces which have all been labelled including the face, body and tummy, legs, eyes, cheeks, and a flower pad. You can cut the labels and play a matching game where the kids have to place the correct labels on each piece.
Step 4: Grab the Glue
It’s time to assemble. Simply follow the easy peasy step-by-step visual directions included in the PDF.
And there you go- a finished frog! Toad ya it would be easy!
Fun Craft Tips
Here are some ideas to make the craft even cuter!
- Glue googly eyes onto the cute frog craft for a fun silly element. It makes the frog’s eyes stand out and makes the craft more unique.
- Use green paint instead of crayons or color pencils. If you have a toddler at home, you can even let them paint the entire template page green, it will still turn out adorable! Use sponges to stamp paint on or even finger paint.
- Stick the frogs on paper plates. This creates a cute background for a paper plate frog craft. Kids can decorate the paper plates any way they like – we usually stick add a spring season background. Another option is to color it in blue to resemble a pond, add some tadpoles and fireflies too!
- Place a blank page over the template and let the kids trace over it as tracing practice. They can also color it in.
- Add a popsicle stick or glue pipe cleaners to the back of the craft and create printable frog puppets.
