Now that the kids are going to be home for a longer period of timeโฆ I want some good screen free activities that challenges them, encourages them to focus (to work on that attention span) and also gives me some quiet time too.
Lego sets are perfect for this! I set out to find a good starter instructional Lego set for 6 year old girls and this one has been great!
When my son (now 13) began building Lego sets.. his attention span went from questionable to AMAZING. I nurtured this love for him (as you will see in his Lego City). He is now in 7th grade and he has incredibly high grades in his accelerated math class.

This Lego set is the perfect beginner build set for 5, 6 and 7 year olds!
If you are looking to move on from your Lego blocks to some instructional sets then these storybook adventure Lego books are AMAZING.
If youโve been following me for a while, you know about my familyโs love for Lego.
My sonโs room is filled with his Lego Star Wars creation, we also have a Lego City that we work on as a family.
While my six year old loves playing with her siblings Lego sets.. sheโs never had the patience to build for long periods of time. Her siblings would always volunteer to complete the set and sheโd take them up on the offer.
Yep, thatโs what happens in my home when you tell an older sibling to โteachโ a younger sibling how to build Lego setsโฆ they somehow end up swapping hands and the older one canโt resist building for them.

I set out to find a Lego set to pique her interestโฆ something that provided a bit of challenge, while also being right for her build experience level too.
I saw these storybook adventures on the Lego Website but didnโt know what to think. Now, I wish had purchased all the storybook sets they had!
There are 133 pieces in the set.. which proved to be perfect for my daughter. Itโs a great quiet time activity.

I adore these storybook adventure Lego book sets so much and I want to share with you why.
The mini figures are adorable and I can see so much imaginary play with them.
The book allows us to take these sets with us to restaurants, doctor visits, when traveling, etc.
When my children begin working with Lego sets, I always sit with themโฆ I allow them to build independently, but double check that their placement is correct. Eventually, this leads to independent Lego play and builds.
For beginning sets I recommend that you find sets that:
โ๏ธ challenge your child a little (to allow them growth),
โ๏ธbut to also not be too long that they get frustrated.
โ๏ธYou want there to be โeasyโ sections so that your child gains confidence and it also holds their attention. โ๏ธBuild time should be just a bit longer than their current attention span per project.
This set was absolutely perfect for that.
I love that this set gave her some experience in reading the booklets, took the right amount of time to build, can be closed, was the perfect difficulty and itโs priced perfectly. Iโm going back online to purchase the rest of these storybook adventure sets.
I also have bigger sets that Iโve purchased to get her working on now that she has completed some easier ones.
Hereโs the front and back of the box:

Have you tried the Lego Storybook adventures? Did your child like it?
Here are a few other sets that I am going back to purchase:
Arielโs storybook adventure :
The Little Mermaid Storybook Adventure Amazon / Here on Lego Storybook Adventures
Beauty and the Beast:
on Beauty and the Beast storybook adventure on Amazon /Belleโs Storybook Adventures on the Lego website
I didnโt purchase Mulanโs adventure, but you can find it here:
I also just purchased this normal sized set as a step up for my daughter to build a โharderโ set. The pieces will go great with this set as they have normal size figurines.
