Preschool Dental Activities
Research has shown the importance of promoting oral health in schools by incorporating a dental health theme/unit in classrooms. A pilot study conducted in this regard has emphasized the effectiveness of implementing a dental health unit or theme, as children could thereafter identify dental hygiene tools and use them appropriately.
We created 20+ dental activities for preschoolers filled with ideas to make learning engaging and exciting! Perfect for whole class lessons during a dental health unit or as center activities, the hands-on nature of each activity will have students of all interests engaged in their learning. Both color and black and white formats are included, where possible, to suit your individual printing needs.
You can find the list of all our favorite kindergarten and preschool supplies we used for the activities here.
Dental Health Literacy Activities
The literacy activities included in our dental activities for preschoolers will help children master letter identification, increase their vocabulary, and develop essential pre-reading skills. The cute themed activities not only capture children’s attention and enhance engagement, but also create a positive association with essential concepts related to oral hygiene.
Dental Health Math Activities
Math activities included in the pack help kids work on counting and essential numeracy skills, keeping in line with the dental health theme. These activities, such as counting the germs, toothbrush measurement, and toothpaste patterns, not only make learning more enjoyable but also reinforce important mathematical concepts. They provide hands-on opportunities for counting, measuring, and recognizing patterns.
Dental Health Fine Motor Activities
Engaging in activities such as playdough and tracing mats (specifically shape tracing, line tracing, and letter tracing) can have significant benefits for preschoolers, particularly in the development of fine motor skills. Fine motor skills involve the coordination and control of small muscles in the hands and fingers, and they are crucial for various everyday tasks such as writing. Click here to read more about the importance of building fine motor skills.
Tons of other activities are also included such as an I-Spy game, which encourages children to visually discriminate between different images on the page.
