Materials Needed:

Paper Clip (for the spinner)
If you print the puzzles on cardstock they will last longer and they will be more easy to manipulate that way.
You can print the black and white version on color cardstock for colorful puzzles without using more ink.
The Place Value Activity
Place value is wonderful for working on math skills but it’s a skill that needs practice. When kids understand how place value works, they can understand many other math techniques as well.
There are 24 separate place value puzzles with 3 pieces per puzzle. Each puzzle has the number, the number in expanded form, and the number represented by blocks.
We started by mixing up all the pieces into one big pile. Then we would pick out one piece at a time and try to find pieces to match. The key is to search for pieces based on what is on the piece and not its shape. When the puzzle fits together and it’s the same color, you’ll know you have the right answer.
Keep on matching pieces until they are all together!
There is also a recording sheet to go with the puzzles. This puzzle also works on place value but in a different way.
To use the place value spinner simply gather your pencil and paper clip. Position the pencil and paperclip in the middle of the spinner. The paperclip will serve as your spinner.
The first spin will be your 10s number and the second spin your 100s.
After your child has spun, have them fill out the expanded form and the actual number. This activity will help to reinforce that the tens place is more than just one number.
