Your toddler or preschooler will love learning shapes and colors with these fun and easy to put together shape activities!
Learning Shapes and Colors
I’ve already showed you many of our favorite preschool shapes activities, but today.. My 4 year old wanted to show you how it works. We have a new YouTube channel where my children will showcase fun learning activities.
You can watch her tutorial below:
We previously did the shapes hunt activity when my daughter was 2 years old. It was a lot of fun and she often asks for me to throw puzzles into rice for her. This activity re-vitalizes old puzzles and by adding the blindfold, it makes learning shapes even more fun. Shapes activities are always fun with preschoolers and toddlers because they seem to have a natural interest to want to learn shapes. Colors and shapes form a major part of our world. These vocabulary words are also important for a child. When an activity is challenging enough to be fun, but not too hard, I notice my children have more fun.

We have had the Melissa and Doug shapes puzzle for many years!
To prepare the shapes for toddlers activity, all you need to do is hide the puzzle pieces in the rice. The leftover puzzle base is like a key. It shows the child which pieces are missing and what they have to still find.
Now that my daughter is 4 years old she knows all her colors and shapes and I think it is largely related to the fact that she did this activity so much.
You can find more shapes worksheets here and recognition practice here.
Have you tried this activity before? Do you have any other favorite shapes and colors activities? What else have you thrown into dry rice?
