How to get slime out of carpet
To my dismay, the one “toy” that my children never seem to get enough of and that has stood the test of time has been slime… Because of their great love for making slime, I think we’ve tried just about every slime recipe there is: We’ve made the Butter Slime Recipe, edible slime , fluff, No Glue Slime using only two ingredients, Glow In The Dark Slime and even unicorn poop slime! Our list of slime experiments kept growing, the excitement on my kids faces while they were creating slime was priceless. But there was slime on my carpet. We needed to decide whether to stop making slime or come up with some solutions.
We established more rules for slime usage including using a tray when playing with slime… but somehow it wasn’t enough. Slime is so oozy that it ends up on the carpet. I didn’t want to spend hours scrubbing my carpet so I needed to find out how to get slime out of carpet easily, with minimal effort on my part.
I first attempted to remove slime on my kids clothing and this method worked. Then, the most annoying thing happened.. someone left their slime container open, tilted on to my carpet. How much scrubbing would this have to take?! Getting bits and pieces of slime out of my carpet was ok.. but this?!
After the lecture that all 3 of my children received and a game of “I didn’t do it, it wasn’t me.. it was him.. it was her…” went on… I then began my journey in getting slime out of carpet.
If this is you right now… relax.. take a deep breath.. I promise I am going to teach you how to get dried slime out of carpet so that you’ll visually never even know it was once there.

Here are a few suggestions to keep slime out of carpet.. preventative measures:
- Slime can only be used in designated areas at home.
- Your children must use a tray or baking sheet when playing with slime.
- Slime on the floor = a slime ban in the house.
- Establish rules.
- Have your children clean the slime instead of you. They will be more unlikely to make a mess if they have to deal with the cleaning part.

All jokes aside, creating slime teaches your child about science so in some ways, it’s good that they are doing science experiments! They are learning through play… so pat yourself on the back, you are an amazing parent, teacher or caregiver and your slime loving child is lucky to have you around.
