Why is Color by Number so popular?
There are various types of Color by Number activities, such as online versions and printables, with tons more options to choose from. However, printed Color by Number activities seem to have more benefits for children. Here are some reasons to get and use this free resource:
- Builds fine motor skills: Coloring the segments builds fine motor skills in the hands and fingers. This improves a child’s dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Later, it will help them with holding writing tools!
- Relaxing to complete: Coloring is a great way to de-stress. If you want to calm the kids after a busy day or recess, then let them work on a page. Afterward, they’ll be more ready or willing to focus on more difficult subjects.
- Improves focus: As the kids hone in on one task and then on specific numbers and colors, they build skills! This assists them in developing fine focus and deep concentration. It will also help them with following instructions.
- Number and color recognition: The activity involves associating numbers with colors, aiding in recognizing numbers and the names of colors. This helps preschoolers become familiar with numbers and their order.
How to Use the Activity
If you or your little ones are unfamiliar with Color By Number, here is a quick guide:
- At the top of each worksheet, there is a key that assigns a color to a number. If you want, let your kids make a colored mark next to the color to make it easier (or if your little ones can’t read yet.) This will show them which number matches the color. You can also give the little ones the answer key for them to follow.
- The kids must pick the correct color according to the label and then color the relevant areas.
- Picking the correct colors reinforces their problem-solving skills, hand-eye coordination, and number recognition.
