Weather Activities for Preschool
For little kids, learning about the weather isn’t just about science. It’s also about getting to know the world around them in a fun and meaningful way. These weather activities are separated into learning centers, so mix them up to keep things interesting and target different essential skills!
Weather Vocabulary Activities
1. Vocabulary Words– Discuss the vocabulary words and different types of weather. Then use the worksheet to place the correct words under the picture.
2. Pocket Chart Cards– Place the vocabulary words and pictures in a pocket chart. Discuss the words and have students add in the correct picture to the words.
3. Weather Chart– Discuss the weather words and use the circle chart to show the correct weather for the day.
Weather-themed Literacy Activities
4. Raining Letters Alphabet Hunt– Place a Bingo chip on the raindrop letters that match the letter in the rain cloud. Then trace the letter to enhance handwriting.
5. Thunderbolt Hide and Seek– Place the alphabet cards in a pocket chart. Then hide the thunderbolts behind some of the letters. Fill out one of the worksheets while guessing which letters the thunderbolts are hiding behind.
6. Raindrops Beginning Letter Sounds– Match the beginning sound raindrops to the correct letter.
7. Thunderbolt Rhyming Words– Match the rhyming thunderbolts.
8. Cloud Sight Words– Hide the sight words in a sensory bin, attach them to a binder ring, or place them face down in a stack. Pick a card, read the word, then color in the matching cloud
Math Weather Activities
9. Raindrop Splash– Identify the number on the ten frame cards then color the number on the recording worksheet. You can also use the finger counting cards instead or match the ten frame cards to the finger number cards.
12. Cloud Shape Tracing– Trace the shape cloud with cotton. Then, trace the matching cloud shape on the worksheet.
10. How Many to Make 10– Add dots to the ten frame to work on how many more additional numbers it takes to make ten. Then, fill out the worksheet or write your answer on the cards.
13. Weather I Spy– Count the pictures on the I SPY sheets then write the numbers. One of the pages includes a check list which is perfect for younger kids. Look for a picture then check it off on the page.
11. Counting Raindrops– Use pony beads, math links, or place magnetic numbers on or under the cards after counting the raindrops.
Weather Craft and Visual Perception Activities
14. Cloud Craft Name– Write the letters of your name in each raindrop. Then, color it in and cut out the pieces. Glue them onto the cloud. You can also glue cotton balls to make fluffy clouds.
15. Clip the Weather– Look at the picture and decide which weather the item of clothing is appropriate for. Then, clip the correct weather picture.
Weather Fine Motor Activities
16. Color By Number– Color the pictures in by using the color word key on each page. Improve color and number recognition skills.
17. Cloud Tracing– Trace the dashed lines under the cloud to create rain and lightning bolts.
18. Playdough Mats– Create the pictures using play dough to enhance fine motor skills.
