Benefits of Playing Bingo
Bingo is a game that can be played by anyone! It can be adapted to suit all ages and different topics or themes. It’s very popular with my kindergarten and preschool learners because it has many additional benefits besides having fun in the classroom or at home!
Here are some educational benefits of bingo and why I love sharing these activities with you:
- It is a fun way to help children learn new things. They expand their vocabulary and identify colors and images associated with popular holidays or themes.
- This is a hands-on activity. Children learn best by doing. Playing bingo also helps improve your kids’ decision-making abilities and fine motor skills.
- Boosts brain development. Children learn to work as a team, how to be patient, and strategy.
- Provides stress-relief. This activity helps improve a child’s well-being. Games create a stress-free environment. This could also contribute to children being more motivated, competitive and keen on learning more.

How to Play St Patrick’s Day Bingo
The instructions are very easy! Here’s how to play:
- Print out the Bingo boards and cut out the calling cards. You could place the calling cards in a bowl or jar to select randomly during the game.
- Distribute one bingo board to each player.
- Designate someone as the caller who will draw a calling card from the pile, announcing and showing it to the players. (This is a great way to practice the vocabulary words.)
- Each player will check their boards for the matching image and cover it with a marker if they have it.
- The first person to have five squares in a row has to say Bingo! and is the winner.
Tips for Playing Bingo
- If you have access to a laminator, laminate the cards and boards for increased durability so you can easily re-use the activity.
- You can have individual players or you can divide into teams or small groups. This improves coordination between students. It also helps families bond on game night!
- You can play as many rounds as you’d like. We like to keep playing until only two players are left.
- To make it special, have some prizes on hand. It can be anything from stickers, a small treat, or a certificate.
- Play phonics games where the kids have to sound out the word on the calling card. This is great for speech therapy!
- The cards can also be used for charades. You can have a child pick up a card and then have them describe it. For example, if they pick up shoes, they might say, “These are something we wear on our feet. They help us walk and run. Sometimes they have laces, and sometimes they slip on easily. What am I holding?” This variation of the game encourages verbal communication skills and creativity
- Each time someone BINGOs you could do something special like a dare, a dance party, or sing a song.
