With St Patrick’s Day approaching, this is a wonderful opportunity to incorporate a rainbow theme in your classroom or at home. The pot of gold at the end of your rainbow is this pack! Keep reading for a sneak peek of what fun is headed your way…
Why Include A Rainbow Theme
When planning my themes for the kids, I consider a few things: will it be interesting, will it be educational and will it be exciting? A rainbow preschool theme checks all of the boxes!
Here’s why a rainbow theme is beneficial:
- Color Recognition: Rainbows showcase a wide spectrum of colors, particularly beneficial for younger children who are learning to identify colors.
- Creativity and Imagination: The vibrant colors of a rainbow can inspire creativity and imagination. They may be encouraged to create colorful artwork and share stories.
- Learning Opportunities: A rainbow theme can be integrated into various learning activities across different subjects. For example, teachers or parents can incorporate rainbow math activities (e.g. counting colored objects), a rainbow science experiment (make crystal rainbows at home with salt and pipe cleaners), and literacy (reading stories with or about rainbows). Luckily this pack has it all!
- Positive Associations: Rainbows are often associated with positivity, joy, and hope. this is a key feature of St Patrick’s Day! By incorporating a rainbow theme in your classroom, children may be happier. They will also learn more about the holiday and its key features.
How to Use the Pack
There are OVER 25 ACTIVITIES to choose from, PLUS a set of no-prep worksheets. I usually print and prep an activity from the pack, place a rainbow abacus in the classroom, add a jar of colored candy or buttons, set up supplies and then we get to the fun. The kids love it! Let’s discuss how you can get the most out of the pack.
1. Use the activities as…
There are so many opportunities to enjoy these activities, especially with preschoolers. I use them for:
- Classwork
- Homework
- Morning work
- Adding them to a sensory bin
- Early finishers
- Brain breaks
- Long waiting periods (like going on long errands or dentist visits)
If you’re looking for no prep activities, I firstly suggest keeping the worksheets printed out and on hand. Secondly, you could also laminate some of the activities for extra durability. (For e.g. Emotions Game Board).
2. Use an activity planner
There are a variety of math, literacy, and fine motor activities included in this pack. The hands-on rainbow activities for preschoolers create a fun learning experience and will ensure that they reach certain goals and objectives this pack intends to achieve.
3. Practice, Practice, Practice
Children learn through practice. Therefore, this allows them to nurture the knowledge that they have learned. Although the pack is filled with various activities, together, they reinforce similar concepts and essential skills.
By engaging in many activities that are centered around the rainbow theme, children will build associations and develop new skills. Try out as many activities as you can!
