Penguin Free Printable Counting Mats

These adorable Penguin Free Printable Counting Mats for Pre-k and Kindergarten kids are a great way to get children and students actively learning about numbers. Kids learn math much quicker when we use hands on learning activities. Students will work on one to one correspondence, fine motor skills, number recognition and more. My preschooler was able to use this (with my help) and I love that we are working together to accomplish and learn these early math skills.

Penguin Free Printable Counting Mats

Materials Required:

• Cardstock
• Laminator with pouches.
• A manipulative of some sort – I used these cute heart buttons from the Target Dollar Spot.

The Number Printable Counting Mats Activity

Once you printed out the activity you can choose whether to laminate it or not. If you would like to use it over and over then I’d suggest you laminate it. If you plan to use it once or twice with just one child then printing it on the card stock will be fine.

Then lay it out on a table with the math manipulative you would like to use. Because Valentine’s Day is near by I thought I’d use it with some adorable hearts that I have. You could use erasers or anything else that you have at home that is small enough.

For younger kids I would place one card out at a time.

Here I placed the number 3 counting mat and my daughter (preschooler) had to place the correct amount of hearts on the penguin body.

For pre-k and kindergarten kids I would place all the mats out all around the table and have them place the corresponding number of hearts on each mat.
